Nighttime Prowler

I was sitting at the computer last night when Rex said, "Someone is hiding in our yard!"  I ran over by him to look out the window.  He pointed to the desk we've had sitting in our driveway since our yard sale and said, "They're over there behind your desk."

I peered out the window into the darkness, but before I could get a good look at anything, Rex opened the front door and glared in the direction of the lurker.

Wanting to satisfy my curiosity, I walked past Rex and started heading toward the desk.
I could hear rustling.  Then under the branches of the tree between us I could see the shoes of the person, and they actually started moving in my direction.  We met in the middle of the driveway.

It was a boy I had never seen before and he looked extremely nervous.

He said, "Hey, I'm just here to ask Alicia to the dance.  Um, would that be okay?"

Oooopsie!! Awkward!!

I said that was "of course fine and I'm so sorry" and stuff and I ran back in the house along with Rex and Andrew who were waiting at the door.

About two minutes later the doorbell rang and the dance request was displayed on the welcome mat, and that poor boy finally got to go home.

  1. What an awesome moment! I'm confused though. Why was he hiding in the yard? Was he just getting up the gumption to come to the door?

  2. Lincoln Parkin??!!! And he was born before the band even. So sad. Some parents don't really love their children.

  3. Mrs. M.--In our neck of the woods, kids ask each other to a dance by leaving something ambiguous on their porch and then running away. We were never supposed to see this poor kid.
