If price matters, make sure you include the cost of replacement ink in your comparisons. Know what your printer is for - is it for pictures? School papers? Something else? Read reviews online by normal people and by tech people. Check Consumer Reports - they may have helpful things to say as well. I have an HP which I like, except that it's huge. Hope this helps.
our hp photosmart has been seamlessly reliable for 5 years. i think it was less than 100 bucks and the ink is cheapish. i have used it to print photos and it's good, not great for that. good luck. i love technology...
If you don't need to do color prints, we've had our hp laserjet 1012 for years and it's been great. Plus, we can normally by the toner at Costco, so we get decent deals. Good luck :)
We got the HP Officejet Pro L7650 All-in-one from Costco. I like Costco because if there are problems they will take it back with no hassle. They also offer the ink cartridges. Peter is more technical and could probably give a better review on this printer. We wanted fax, printer and copier/scanner all in one. Those features are great except for the scanning which is too slow.
If you need a scanner, Peter did all the homework and got the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M (it is just a scanner). It is easy, fast and is archiving everything for us. It is also nicely compact.
That was a nice tanget. Anyway, the printer we have is big but works. I NEVER print pictures on my own printer. I have found that the quality is just never the same or even close.
My advice is don't buy printers :). Aren't I a snot to be so contrary? But really I got so tired of buying new printers every other year I decided I that I don't care that our printer hasn't printed in color for 3 years. I just use it for b&w printing and I do all my fancy printing at Costco or Kinkos or Walgreens. They get to throw away the bad prints --the photos look like "real" photos and I haven't had to clean my printer heads in years. I really think I've saved a lot of money and frustration. Costco will ship right to your house and sometimes for free.

ReplyDeleteI have an epson. it's a printer/scanner/fax. I got it at Office Depot for under $100. Prints good photos & is wireless. Ink is fairly priced.
