Wakey Wakey Momma Flakey

The other morning I woke up to a light knock on my door.
It was Andrew.

He calmly said, "Mom, Edith's here to pick me up for preschool."

"What?!!!"  I jumped out of bed, flapping around in my Spongebob Squarepants Valentines pjs mumbling apologies to Edith and trying to think clearly about getting him ready.  I needed to speed dress him, grab a piece of bread for him and shove him out the door.

Then I looked down at him and noticed he was fully dressed in nice clothes.  He smiled up at me and said, "I've already had my breakfast and I'm all ready to go.  I just wanted to tell you that I'm leaving."

All I needed to do was hand him his bag and kiss his little responsible self goodbye.
(And then, of course, spend the next few days trying to recoup any sense of dignity and self-worth.)

  5. When I think of the battle I have every morning to get clothing on my 5 year old and to get food in her mouth . . . I am so saddened, so very saddened by this post. Shame on you for posting it.

  6. from what i hear - this is not such a rare occurrence am i right? like your girls getting up and going to the BOM readathon by themselves because they were SO excited to get there and couldn't wait for you. What neato kids you have. And I say kudos to you for the hands-off parenting (in that department anyway) - it seems like it's making them quite independent and responsible.
