Nightly Family Activities

We have started a new tradition in our family that each night a different kid picks the family activity.  That person gets to choose and everyone else has to go along with it. I knew we'd get a variety of activities--Megan would get us doing something active, Andrew would convince us to play a game, Rachel could get us all to bed early, and Alicia could force us into watching Miracle for the 115th time. It also eliminates fights over which movie to watch or whether we should watch a movie or play a game, or who has gotten to choose what we do more than others, etc.

I thought maybe the family activities would die out, but they have gotten increasingly more creative and complicated. Tuesday is Andrew's night. This last Tuesday he planned a night of video games followed up by watching episodes of Gilligan's Island. Then he said, "Now we need a snack while we watch the show.  So we should make brownies."

I realized I'd have to limit them to choosing ONE activity.

The ideas are getting bigger too.  Andrew said, "Mom, for my next activity night can we go together as a family and buy a trampoline?"
